Death vs injury. If someone died, start with firms that publish death results from truck crashes: Fried Goldberg, Arnold & Itkin, Ammons, Clifford, Gair Gair and Morgan & Morgan. For a living victim with brain, spine or limb injuries, Panish, Fried Goldberg and Zehl list the largest injury results.
Location. Texas: Arnold & Itkin, Zehl, Ammons, Witherite. California: Panish. Florida: Morgan & Morgan. Georgia: Fried Goldberg, Witherite. New York: Gair Gair, Finz & Finz. Illinois: Clifford, Witherite.
Severity. For a smaller injury, ask the firm up front whether it takes cases your size. Several firms here list only eight-figure results.
Timing. If the crash was recent, call this week. Trucking companies can lose or overwrite electronic data, and the deadlines below are short.

How we rank
Each firm gets a score out of 100. Published truck case results count 40 points, focus on trucking cases 25, public rating volume 20, and access (free consult, languages, 24/7 line, offices in more than one state) 15. Scores are our judgment from the pages we read in November 2026. Ratings are third-party. We found a public rating with a review count for only 1 of the 10 firms (Morgan & Morgan), so the other nine got a neutral 10 of 20 on that part. Firms do not pay to be listed.

Ties are broken by the results score. Every figure on this page is in our source list with the page it came from.
Top rated truck accident law firms in the US
By our method, the top three are Morgan & Morgan, Fried Goldberg and Arnold & Itkin. Morgan & Morgan scores high on reach and has a large public review count. Fried Goldberg centers its practice on trucking cases and lists trucking results up to $52M. Arnold & Itkin won the largest verdict on this page, $604,025,000 against a freight broker, though that case is headed for appeal. "Top rated" here means top of our scored list, not a claim that any firm is the best for you. Read the case results and call two or three firms before you sign.
Truck accident lawyer near me: how to narrow this list
Start with the state where the crash happened, since that usually sets the deadline and the court. Use the location line in "Which one fits your case" to pick firms with an office in or near that state. Then check that the attorney you would work with is licensed there, using the bar lookup link in each listing. National firms often bring in local co-counsel, which is normal; ask who will actually try the case. Last, ask whether the firm has handled a case against the same kind of defendant: a large carrier, a small owner-operator, or a freight broker.
How much does a truck accident law firm cost
Every firm here that states fee terms works on contingency: you pay nothing up front, and the attorney takes a share of the money recovered. Most do not publish the share. Two do. The Ammons Law Firm lists 33⅓% before a lawsuit, 40% once a suit is filed, and 45% if the case goes to trial. Gair Gair Conason says it typically takes 33.33%. Ask every firm for its percentage at each stage, who pays case costs if you lose, and whether costs come out before or after the fee. Get it in a written fee agreement.
Deadline to file a truck accident claim in each state
These are the general time limits for suing over an injury or a death. The clock usually starts on the crash date for injuries and on the date of death for wrongful death claims.
*The Georgia statute text covers injuries to the person; the 2-year death deadline from the date of death is as described by a Georgia law firm's summary. Minors, claims against government bodies, criminal cases and late-discovered injuries can change these dates. This is not legal advice; confirm your deadline with an attorney.
What to do after a truck accident
Get medical care first, even if you feel fine, and keep every record. Call the police so there is a crash report. If you can, photograph the truck, its trailer, the company name and the USDOT number on the door, plus road conditions and your injuries. Get names and phone numbers of witnesses. Do not give a recorded statement to the trucking company's insurer before you talk to an attorney. Keep the damaged car until your attorney says it can go. Write down what you remember that day, while it is fresh.
18-wheeler accidents
An 18-wheeler crash usually involves more possible defendants than a car crash: the driver, the motor carrier, the trailer owner, the shipper or loader, a maintenance shop, and sometimes the freight broker that picked the carrier. The July 2026 Dallas County verdict won by Arnold & Itkin put most of the blame on the broker, C.H. Robinson, which has said it will appeal. Each extra defendant can mean another insurance policy. A trucking attorney will look at who hired whom and what each knew about the carrier's safety record before the crash.
Semi truck accidents
Semi truck cases often turn on federal safety rules: hours behind the wheel, driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing, and inspection and repair records. Breaking one of these rules can help show fault. The firms here list semi results such as Clifford's $19.3M recovery after a semi rear-ended a car and Morgan & Morgan's $3,793,924.13 Highlands County verdict for a truck driver hit by a trucker who fell asleep. Ask any firm you call how many semi cases it has tried, not just settled.
Rear-ended by a truck
A loaded truck needs far more distance to stop than a car, so a rear-end crash by a truck is often severe. Fault can seem obvious, but the carrier may still argue that you stopped suddenly or that your injuries came from something else. Evidence that helps: dashcam video, the truck's speed and braking data, the driver's logbook, and cell phone records. Fried Goldberg lists a $31M result after a tractor-trailer rear-ended a car and killed three people; Witherite lists $9,272,500 in a rear-end case followed by an 18-wheeler impact.
Trucking company insurance
Federal rules set minimum liability coverage for interstate carriers. Under 49 CFR 387.9, a for-hire carrier hauling non-hazardous property in a vehicle of 10,001 pounds or more must carry at least $750,000. Some hazardous loads require $1,000,000, and bulk hazardous materials require $5,000,000. Many carriers buy more than the minimum, and excess or umbrella policies can sit on top. The insurer works for the trucking company, so expect a fast adjuster call and a low early offer. Let your attorney handle those talks.
Truck black box and ELD data
Most interstate trucks must use an electronic logging device. Per the FMCSA, an ELD syncs with the engine and records driving time automatically. That record can show whether a driver went past hours-of-service limits. Many trucks also have engine control modules that store speed and braking data, and some have forward-facing cameras. This data can be overwritten, so a truck accident attorney will usually send a written demand to preserve it right away. That is one reason not to wait to call.
Truck accident wrongful death
When a truck crash kills someone, close family or the estate can bring a wrongful death claim. Who may sue depends on the state. The deadline is 2 years in all six states in the table above, usually counted from the date of death. Firms on this list with published death results include Fried Goldberg ($31M and $28M), Ammons ($49M, Ector County), Clifford ($19.3M) and Gair Gair ($26M). Arnold & Itkin's $604,025,000 verdict also came from a fatal crash. Ask how the firm will handle both the death claim and any survival claim for the person's own losses.
